Why a Nairobi National Park Tour is a Must Do
Many travelers ask why a Nairobi National Park tour is so highly recommended. Unlike many other far flung wildlife destinations, the park is super accessible, perfect for spontaneous day trips or even quick wildlife viewing opportunities. Here are several reasons why you should put a Nairobi National Park visit on your list:
Incredible Animal Encounters
Nairobi National Park is home to over 100 mammal species including lions, leopards, buffaloes, white and black rhinos, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras and various antelope species.
Unbeatable Convenience
Being so close to Nairobi’s city centre makes it perfect for travelers with limited time or those looking for a quick escape into nature. Organizing Nairobi airport transfers to the national park is super easy and you can start your wildlife tour soon after arrival.
Scenic Landscapes for Your Lens
Every corner of the park literally begs to be captured, from its open grasslands to its dense acacia woodlands and riverine valleys.
A Paradise for Avian Enthusiasts
Home to over 400 bird species, the park is an excellent place for bird watching. Keep those eyes peeled for species like the striking lilac-breasted roller, the secretary bird, African fish eagle, ostriches, and rare migratory species like the European bee-eater.
Helping to Conserve Nature
Did you know that a portion of your park entry fees is channelled towards Nairobi National Park conservation? Yes! By visiting the park, you’re helping protect its wildlife and habitats for generations to come.
Exploring the Park: Your Options
Which are some of the best ways to explore Nairobi National Park? We’ve listed them below.
Game Drives
Game drives are hands down the best way to experience Nairobi National Park. Categorised into morning, afternoon, and full day drives, they promise an unbeatable wildlife viewing experience.
You can opt for a self drive where you can explore the park at your own place or a guided tour where you’ll be in the company of a seasoned safari guide.
We highly recommend you opt for the guided safari, one, because you’ll have a better chance of spotting wildlife and two, because the guide will share interesting facts about the local flora, fauna and conservation initiatives.
Flexible Durations
Choose a half day Nairobi National Park tour for a quick wildlife fix or a full day tour for a deeper exploration of the park.
When planning your trip, it’s good to know the Nairobi National Park entrance fees as these go towards the upkeep and conservation projects.
Pro Tip: The best time to visit Nairobi National Park for wildlife viewing is during the dry months (June to September and January to February).

Is Nairobi National Park Worth Visiting? My Honest Take
First things first, Nairobi National Park is not a big park. Not like the Mara and Amboseli anyway. It also doesn’t have the same vast landscapes or huge herds you’d expect in those famous reserves.
But what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in character and accessibility. I mean, where else can you spot a lion at sunrise and be back in the city for a morning meeting?
So, back to your question: is visiting the park worth it? Yes… It definitely is…
